The husband and wife team Charlie & Hector at We Heart Pictures are responsible for two of our most popular Shoreditch Studios wedding galleries from the past few years. Charlie manages everything behind the scenes from enquiries to locking in bookings while Hector is the photographer and editor that captures every moment of the wedding day. It’s a pleasure to discuss the inspiration behind their wedding photography in our Q&A.
How long have you worked as a wedding photographer?
"Although we have been into photography since about 2002, "We Heart Pictures" was born and established in 2011, so officially we've been documenting life+love for a decade this year!"
What do you love most about photographing weddings?
"The fact that everyone at a wedding is there to celebrate, in a super happy mood and looking their best, sets the bar pretty high for a great day at work. Good vibes fill rooms and create great atmospheres, happiness is contagious and we love to absorb it and take it home.”
”In addition, knowing that our pictures will last through generations and will tell happy family stories is an extra bonus!"
How would you describe your photographic style?
"Documentary, modern and creative. The alternative for cool+amazing couples.”
“We always aim to capture real emotions and moments. Natural is better than staged and being friendly and approachable allows us to capture the day from the inside. Like having a friend shooting your wedding!"
What do you like to find out about a couple before you scout for shooting locations?
"We want to know as much as possible and whatever the couple wish to share with us. We are interested in their lives, what they like, where they are from, what they do for a living. Their love story, who's coming to the wedding. Everything, the more the better!"
What are some FAQ’s you get from couples?
"Couples usually have lots of questions, they want to know what's the process from the booking until the big day and afterwards. How long it will take to receive their pictures (3 to 4 weeks after the wedding, sometimes sooner!), How long should they plan for bride+groom portraits, group pictures and times in general. What would happen if there are cancellations, payment etc.”
”Most answers to their questions are found on the wedding contract plus we are always a phone call or email away."
Shoreditch is a great location for taking wedding photos, what do you love about the area?
"Shoreditch OMG!! We love it! The hub for the creative, colourful and unique souls. We feel at home there, perfect blend for our city weddings and street art love. The constant change in the street art makes you feel like you are walking new areas every time."
What is your favourite part of a wedding to shoot?
"We are always in the hunt for the unexpected moments, the little details, the interactions between bride and groom, family members and everyone involved.“
”The wedding day as a whole is exciting but we love the bits where things are more free flowing and relaxed. (Prep, Confetti, Portraits, Party).”
”We are big fans of the prep time before the ceremony. We can feel the excitement of the bride and those with her at the time. We also love the couple portraits, a great time to escape the wedding crowd and let them be together. It's usually their first time alone on the day too."
Do you work with a second shooter or videographer?
“On the wedding day it is only Hector, shooting solo gives us the chance to blend and not attract too much attention. Light on gear and discretion when shooting help us capture the frames we make.”
”Having said that, we also have a network of second shooters in case the couple want extra coverage. For videographers we have one or two amazing to recommend.”
Referrals and positive client reviews are important in the wedding industry. What are some of your past clients saying about your services?
“We worked with the amazing Hector and Charlie for our wedding, who own We Heart Pictures. They were SO friendly and easy to work with and gave us lots of practical advice about timings and shot lists for the day. We both haven’t really had our photo taken much by professionals and felt super awkward about a long portrait session so Hector did a great job of making it all feel super fun and natural. They ended up capturing some fantastic photos of all of the moments from our day and we are just so thrilled with them. They went along with all of our crazy ideas for colour flares to confetti canons – just awesome!”

“Finding the right photographer was probably one of the most important things for us. We took a long time looking through wedding blogs and Instagram looking for natural photography with a fun twist. We came across we heart pictures and loved their style! They had shot at our wedding venue before and wedding inspiration images i had saved on my phone also turned out to be shot by them. Their photos are honestly like works of art. We cannot recommend them enough, Hector was amazing! He made us feel so at ease and not awkward in front of the camera. (even Michael who is normally awful in front of a camera was relaxed!)
